James Arnett Burchett, age 86, passed away Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020 at the Pikeville Medical Center. James was born in Olive Hill, Kentucky on August 8, 1934. He was the son of the late Wilford Paul Burchett and Ola Baker Burchett. He was the husband of the late Bonnie Thompson. James moved his family from Ashland, Kentucky , in 1972 to start the Service Department as Service Manager with Wayne Supply company. He also worked as a diesel mechanic for the company until he retired. He and his love, Bonnie Thompson Burchett, married on October 16, 1954. They enjoyed a life of many travels. They rode their Harley Davidson for years. Their highlight of riding was the motorcycle trips with friends and family. Oh, the stories of laughter they would share after returning home. Later in life they traveled the Eastern River Ways in their cabin cruiser, along with pulling the boat to Florida and staying for a few months. Once they moved on to their motor home, they traveled the country. The adventure to Alaska was one they cherished. For twenty six years he loved his time on Cave Run Lake in Morehead, having his cabin cruiser and houseboat at the marina. So many of his dock friends are like family to this day. He was a member of the Olive Hill Masonic Lodge and Shriner El-Hasa. He was also a member of the American Legion. Along with his wife and parents, James was preceded in death by one grandson, Ross James McCoy, two brothers, Jolly Burchett and Gary Burchett, and two sisters, Delores Cooley and Betty Kaye Jacobs. James is survived by three children, Danita Sullivan, Stephen (Angela) Burchett, Mia (Greg) McCoy, four brothers, John Paul Burchett, Daniel Allen Burchett, Douglas Burchett, David Burchett, three sisters, Alice May Shay, Bertha Bond, Peggy Hall, four grandchildren, Paula (Matthew) Pruitt, Heather (Chad) Sullivan, Paul David (Beth) Sullivan, Joshua James (Erica) Sullivan, seven great grandchildren, Owen, Madyson, Kori, Kamron, Hayden, Adalyn, and Wyatt, and a host of loving family and friends who will miss him dearly. Visitation will be Saturday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Sunday Sept. 20, 2020 at 1 P.M. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home.
