James Ronald Charles, age 82, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020 at the Pikeville Medical Center. James was born on April 27, 1938 to his parents the late Otis Charles and Anna Compton Charles. James was the husband of the late Joetta Branham Charles, a retired federal mine inspector for MSHA, and a believer of the baptist faith. He also was a member of the Jenkins Masonic Lodge and he served his country honorably in the United States Army. Along with his wife and parents, James was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters. James is survived by two daughters, Debbie Bryant (Mark), Tammy Belcher (George), six grandchildren, Michael Boyd, Ashley (Blake) Gerughty, Joe (Megan) Bryant, Amanda (Alex) Adams, Logan (Haley) Bryant, Wesley ( Heather) Belcher, seven great grandchildren, Kylie, Maddi, Ava, Easton, Grant, Henry, and Everly, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Sunday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Sunday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Monday October 5, 2020 at 11 a.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Brian Hundley officiating. Burial will follow in the Compton Cemetery on Collins Hwy.
