Monroe Akers, age 84, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2023 at his home of Island Creek. Monroe was born on May 27, 1939 to his parents the late Doc C. Akers and Polly Akers. Monroe was a retired coal miner, a honey bee keeper, and a believer of the baptist faith. Along with his parents, Monroe was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Bradley and one brother, Campbell William Akers. Monroe is survived by three brothers, Eugene Akers, Ermil (Gertrude) Akers, Robert Dean Akers, three sisters, Lockie Swiney, Bertha Kidd, Pauline (Roger) Kidd, a host of loving nieces, nephews, family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023 at 1 P.M. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Jason Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the Akers Cemetery at Island Creek.
