Phyllis Jean Hopkins Matheny, age 76, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2019 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Phyllis was born on Jan. 24, 1943 to her parents the late Homer Hopkins and Mervel Adkins Hopkins. She was the wife of the late Josh Matheny Jr., a homemaker, and a member of the Jehovah's Witness Organization. Along with her husband and parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by one sister, Izetti Hopkins, two brothers, Ronald Dean (Duke) Hopkins, and David Eugene Hopkins, her step mother, Rosie Hopkins, special aunt that's like a sister, Gerlean Hopkins. Phyllis is survived by one son, Gregory (Rhonda) Matheny in Ohio, one daughter, Janet (Billy Dale) Matheny Adkins of Pikeville, two brothers, Dorby (Elitha) Hopkins, Dennis Ray (Patty) Hopkins, two sisters, Dorothy (Greg) Gearhart, Lois (Andy) Adkins, four grandchildren, Jessica Sue Adkins, April Matheny, Emma Matheny, and Josh Matheny, six great grandchildren, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. The funeral will be Wednesday Nov. 27, 2019 at 7p.m. with Heiko Giese officiating.
