Shelby Jean Casey

Rosa Shelby Jean (Smith) Casey was born in Phelps, KY on December 5th, 1937. Her soul left this earth for a heavenly home on April 8th, 2025 at 1:17 pm at the home of her son, Charles Michael Casey and daughter-in-law, Baretta R. Casey in Sweeden, Kentucky. She was the daughter of the late Jakie Smith, Sr. and Rena Smith of Phelps, KY. Shelby was married on December 5th, 1953, to her late husband, Perry Casey and they shared 59 years together. A Pike County native, she will be fondly remembered as a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great-great grandmother.

Along with her husband, Perry, she owned and managed the Casey Grocery Store on Smith Fork in Phelps, KY for many years. She previously worked for the Brock Candy Company in Chicago, IL.

Besides her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by three children, Perry Mitchell Casey, Randy Lee Casey, and Debra Kaye (Casey) Hatfield; two brothers, James Smith and Jakie Smith, Jr. and two brothers-in-law, Leonard Smith and Charles Frederick

Shelby is survived by two sons, Ronnie E. Casey (Rosemary) of Georgetown, KY and Charles Michael Casey (Baretta) of Sweeden, KY; three sisters, Jeanette Frederick of Hackleburg, AL, Judy Smith (Larry) of Charlotte, NC, and Faye Walker (Jerry) of Charlotte. NC; one brother, Charles E. Smith (Anna) of Dunnville, KY; two sisters-in-law, Janice Smith of Forest, VA, and Amy Smith of Kimper, KY and one son-in-law, Monroe Hatfield.

She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Veronica Danielle Conn, Amanda Michelle Hello (Joseph), Jamie Monroe Hatfield (Ashley), Lisa Renee Hatfield, Aaron Seth Bevins, Joshua Michael Casey (Lauren), and Jessica Lynn Casey; 15 great grandchildren, Jasmine Renee Lell, Ronnie Michael Ryan Casey, Tatiyanna Danielle Ingram, Shawn Eric Conn, Jr., Brandon Dwayne Adkins, Joseph Hello, Jr., Kayla Durkalski, Daylon Hairston, Kaylee Hatfield, Jamison Monroe Hurley, Brennen Joe Ramey-Bevins, Morgan Lindsey Wilson, Lincoln Michael Casey, Nolan Donald Casey, and Madeline Harper Casey; eight great great grandchildren, Bryson Adkins, Calan Adkins, Bentley Durkalski, Zayne Durkalski, Emmalynn Grace Wilson, Seth David Wilson, Jr., Raelynn Nicole Casey, and Ryan Jaxson William Casey; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home at Pikeville, KY on Friday, April 11th, 2025 at 5 pm for family and 6 pm for the public. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, April 12th, 2025 at 10 am for visitation and service at 11 am with burial to follow at the Davidson Memorial Gardens at Ivel, KY. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Lucas and Son Funeral Home at Pikeville, KY. The guest book may be signed on the Lucas and Son web page.
