Sonna Jean Johnson Bartley age 76, of Nicholasville, Kentucky passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at St Joes Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. Born in Shelbiana, Kentucky on March 19, 1947, she was the daughter of the late Sonny Eugene Johnson and Eva Collins Johnson. Mrs. Bartley was a woman of very strong faith. She attended Shelby Church in Shelbiana, Kentucky for over 45 years before moving to Nicholasville, where she most recently attended Wellington Church in Nicholasville Kentucky. She was a school teacher at Shelbiana Elementary School and Robinson Creek Elementary School for over 20 years before her retirement in 2002. She loved attending her church Care Group, traveling, watching movies, and taking long car rides. She was a mother, grandmother, and friend to everyone she met. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jimmy Bartley; a sister, Mary Ellen Johnson Thacker; a son-in-law, Eric Reed; two brothers-in-law, Homer Bartley and Gomer Bartley; and a sister-in-law, Hazel Bartley. Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Jeanne Bartley Reed of Danville, a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy Bartley Picarazzi and David Anthony Picarazzi of Nicholasville; two loving grandchildren that were the light of her life, James Anthony Picarazzi and Eva Rose Picarazzi; brother and sisters-in-law, Amos Bartley, Jr (Polly) and Ruby Wright Bartley; nephews and nieces, David Thacker, Veronica Thacker Adkins (Junior), Pauline Thacker Byers (Blaine), Mark Burks (Starlah), Misty Bartley Lewis (Scott), Angie Bartley Mosley and a host of other beloved nephews and nieces. Mrs. Bartley had many close friends who were like sisters, including: Shirley Taylor of Shelbiana, Kentucky; Juanita Huffman of Shelbiana, Kentucky, Cheryl Picarazzi (Tony) of Winter Haven, Florida and a special group of ladies whom she loved, The Magnolias.
A Celebration of Life Ceremony will take place on Friday, January 12, 2024 at Wellington Church in Nicholasville, Kentucky from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. A visitation service will take place on Sunday, January 14th, 2024 at Shelby Church in Shelbiana, Kentucky at 1:00 p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Her final resting place will be beside her beloved husband, Jimmy, on Collins Family Cemetery at Frozen, Kentucky.
