Tivis Newsom, age 86, passed away Sunday, January 5, 2020 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Tivis was born on Sept. 6, 1933 to his parents the late Estil Ted Newsom and Lilie Mae Bryant Newsome. He was the husband of Esther Casebolt Newsom for sixty years, a retired coal miner for Bethlehem Steel Coal Company, and a member of the Ford's Branch Church of Christ and the U.M.W.A. Along with his parents, Tivis was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Anderson and one infant brother. Along with his wife, Tivis is survived by one son, Tivis (Susan) Newsom Jr., two daughters, Tammy (Ronald) Caudill, Teresa (Ricky) Bentley, one sister, Glenda Faye Akers, three brothers, Clifford, Bobby Gene, and Paul Dean Newsom, four grandchildren, Ronald Douglas (Chelsea) Caudill, Wesley Adam Bentley, Esther Renee (Robert) Poulos, Sarah Elizabeth (Daniel) Chapman, and a host of loving family and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday at 6p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Wednesday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 12 noon at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Willie Meade officiating. Burial will follow in the Annie E. Young Cemetery.
