Vernon Reed Osborne

Vernon Reed Osborne, age 72, of Dorton, KY passed away on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at the Pikeville Medical Center. Vernon was born on June 3, 1948 to his parents the late Adam Osborne and Lillian Pearl (Caudill) Osborne. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Marilyn Elizabeth Potter Osborne, brothers, Stanley (Patricia) Osborne of Elwood, Ky., Paul (Maxine) Osborne of Pikeville, Ky., Homer Osborne of Dorton, Ky., Chester (Nancy) Osborne of Virgie, Ky., one sister, Susie (David) Newsome of Pikeville, Ky. He was preceded in death by brothers, James Osborne, Ralph Osborne, Stevie Osborne, and sister, Edna Ruth Roberts. Vernon loved and was greatly loved by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He had many friends in his life, but his best friend was Tevan Reed Tackett of Georgetown, Ky. Vernon was a Vietnam Veteran who proudly served his country in the United States Army. He excelled in basketball in Jr. High and High School and enjoyed watching any and all sports. Antique car shows were one of his favorite past times and he took great pride in his home, especially maintaining his yard. Vernon was a hard worker and provider throughout his life. He was a heavy equipment operator, a foreman, a plant operator, and in 2015 he retired from Alpha Natural Resources as prep plant superintendant. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home. Church services will be Saturday at 7p.m. The funeral will be Sunday, July 19, 2020 at 1p.m. at the Lucas & Son Funeral Home with Johnny Vanover officiating. Entombment will follow in the Johnson Memorial Mausoleum.
